In six days, it’s possible to change your life. Klemmer’s Heart of the Samurai training is designed to ignite your sense of purpose and commitment. This six-day retreat at the Paradise Point Resort and Spa in San Diego, California, will renew your energy levels as you rediscover what it means to be passionate about life.
A life-changing journey that lasts
Based on the principles in Klemmer founder Brian Klemmer’s now-classic book The Compassionate Samurai, this training is distinguished by its focus on deep and long-lasting positive changes.
Unlike other “quick-fix” leadership programs that only touch on surface attitudes and eventually return participants to their previous “normal,” Klemmer’s trainings represent a transformative journey of the heart and soul. Klemmer offers leadership development techniques that truly engage participants. Its programs urge people to look honestly at where they’ve come from and to build—from the inside out—character, empathy, and a sense of greater responsibility for their actions.
Overcoming limitations
Participants in the Heart of the Samurai course have the opportunity to challenge their own outmoded beliefs and behavioral patterns. These typically include limiting ideas about one’s own effectiveness and power, and one’s relationship to other people, or to ideas about scarcity and abundance. Once worked through at a deep level, these no-longer-useful beliefs can be discarded or changed. The resulting space then becomes open for the flowering of a life of greater professional success and personal fulfillment.
Like all of Klemmer’s training journeys, the Heart of the Samurai is anchored in a universal belief: In general, there are two categories of people in the world. There are those who charge ahead and achieve outward success—albeit temporary—in this world, regardless of who they hurt or what they destroy along the way. Then there are those who are genuinely sensitive, loving, and kind, but who often can’t translate good intentions into practical results.
The power of—and for—good
The figure of the samurai in Brian Klemmer’s book, and in the trainings, symbolizes a melding of these two types into a human being who enjoys the best of both worlds. The type of character development involved is based on the warrior code of the samurai of feudal Japan, who is committed to the standards of kindness, honesty, defense of others, and surrender to a higher purpose in life.
Those who complete the Heart of the Samurai training find that they now possess a greater understanding and compassion for others, and a deep moral commitment to keeping their word, owning their actions, and upholding strong ethical standards. They learn to use their inherent power for the greater good, using effective strategies for getting things done the right way.
The Heart of the Samurai training is designed to build on Klemmer’s Advanced Leadership Training, through which participants have worked through and discarded old ways of thinking and behaving. The Heart of the Samurai’s five themes lead into a focus on developing positive and productive new beliefs.
- Surrender—The first of these heart-awakening themes is that of surrender. When you learn in the core of your being to stop resisting your inner call to improve your life, you’ll feel renewed creative energy that you can direct toward achieving your goals. It’s a paradox, but it’s universally true: The choice to surrender to your own higher purpose results in an expansion of your sense of freedom and joy.
- Contribution—Another universal law supports the theme of contribution. When we give, we get. And when we truly give of ourselves, the ripples of giving and receiving continue throughout our lives and in the lives of those around us.
- Embracing an abundant mindset—The third theme involves embracing an abundant mindset. Through the Heart of the Samurai training, you’ll learn that you are already more than enough, and that you already have more than enough. It’s about a sense of value and worth that transcends time and circumstances. Material abundance, while important, is only a partial goal of this mindset. It’s really about seeing beyond the limitations of a zero-sum perspective to perceive, embrace, and manifest the greater abundance available to you.
- Joy of commitment—The joy of commitment is about achieving happiness by accepting responsibility. A core concept in Klemmer’s program, commitment centers on making and holding to extraordinary agreements. When you learn to take joy in giving and keeping your word, making and keeping your commitments, you learn to live with more intention and purpose. You’ll enjoy the trust of those around you and will have trust in yourself. You won’t give your word lightly, but when you do, you’ll hew to that commitment with everything in your being—just as the ancient samurai warriors did.
- Purpose—The fifth theme is that of purpose. The Heart of the Samurai’s series of exercises and guided experiences are created to lead you to the realization of what your own higher purpose is. You’ll better understand who you are and the path you were destined to walk, as you unfold a life dedicated to a purpose larger than yourself: a life enriched by both greater influence in the world and a deeper sense of meaning.
What would you accomplish if you could realize the abundance all around you? And tap into it over just six days to become the leader—and the person—you’ve always wanted to be?
