Like rent and utility bills, internet plans have become an indispensable part of living.

This shouldn’t mean that you have to pay through the nose to get your desired broadband speed, though. Here are 5 tips on how you can save on internet bills in the US.

Get the Unlimited Plan and Save on Overage Costs

Heavy users and those with large families should always opt to get unlimited internet, or else you’ll risk facing overage charges.

Today’s unlimited internet broadband plans are reasonably priced, and you won’t have to worry about how much data you’ve consumed. This way you’ll only have to pay a flat fee regardless of how much time you spend on the world wide web.

Compare Plans and Prices

Consumers now have more choices than ever, and it’s always wise to exercise this power.

Furthermore, there are websites that allow you to check out the available packages of a certain ISP, such as Metronet internet so you can make the best decision.

A good rule is to not settle on the first internet offer you see. Make sure to check out two or three that are available in your area and compare them against each other. Which one has the lowest cost and has the services and features you need?

Avoid Mobile Internet as Much as Possible

Having two internet sources can end up costing you more in the long run. Internet from broadband companies are good for when you’re at home, while mobile networks allow you to browse on your smartphone even when you’re on the go.

Since most of the world are now working from home, there’s less reason to subscribe to a mobile plan. You can save money by calling your mobile provider and cancelling your data plans. If ever you need it again you can connect to a public Wi-Fi or wait until you get home.

Be On The Lookout for Promos and Deals

Most ISPs will try to draw new customers by offering significant discounts or price cuts on their internet plans. When you’re nearing the end of your contract or are just starting a wifi setup you’ll want to shop around for deals.

Shop around and you’ll likely find a company that offers decent internet speed at an affordable price. Some slash their monthly prices by half for about 3 to 6 months, which translate directly into savings.

Get Your Own Router and Modem

You can cut your internet bills by having your own equipment, particularly the modem or router. ISPs will often offer them as rentals and come with the contract, but they add to the monthly cost.

You can shop around on Amazon or other reputable electronic sites and find the router that does the job. For simple wifi setups a budget router should suffice. Power users and large households will benefit from extended range and hardware that supports multiple users.

Buying a router is a significant investment, but it will pay for itself over time. Furthermore, you own the equipment and won’t have to rent another.
