How Much Does It Cost to Tint the Windows of Your Car?

Several factors will determine the final price of tinting a car. That is because this is not the same as tinting the windows of a car with five windows to one that only has three windows. Besides, the type of film to apply, its durability, and the vehicle model are other factors that determine the cost.

To establish a base cost, this can be around 50 dollars. But taking into account the above characteristics, the price can get raised.

Window Tint Laws in California, Texas, and Florida

The intensity of the sun in these states can make the tinting car window seem like a necessity. However, for driver’s and police protection, states have instituted laws that pertain to window tinting. Failure to comply with these laws can result in a traffic ticket.

Visible light transmission

Tinting laws are based on the percentage of visible light transmission. That is the amount of light allowed through a window and any window covering film. In window tint laws in California, the front driver and passenger side windows must allow 70 percent of the light to filter. The front windshield can only get dyed on the top 4 inches of the glass. In Florida, up to 28%, tint darkness is allowed. And window tint laws in Texas only allow 25% tint darkness.

Rear Windows

The rear windows of a vehicle in California and Texas can be any level of darkness. However, if you tint your back or rear window, you are legally required to have both side mirrors. In window tint laws in Florida, rear windows should have up to 15% darkness. A non-reflective tint is allowed in the windshield.

Permitted Tint Colors

Colors window tint in California and Texas can come in shades of black. Red, amber, or blue tinting is not legal and can result in a traffic ticket. In Florida, colored tints are not allowed.

Window Tint Certification Rules

Companies that offer tinting services are not required to prove that their product complies with state laws. As the driver, you are responsible for ensuring that your car meets all legal standards and also have a sticker from the tinting company.
