Contrary to common opinion, the recently launched Toyota Vios is also not a new generation, but rather a much-needed substantial update that has successfully put the vehicle back in competition as part of the overall sedan, a position previously held by the Honda City. Out went the basic empty vessel of a car, and it went, a fresh futuristic design crammed with 7 airbags, a blind-spot monitor, and a panoramic view monitor.

Price

Toyota Vios Price (Variants) in the 2022 Toyota Vios are available in 10 variations, with prices ranging from RM 681,000  to RM 1.02 Million. The base model of the vios is the 2022 Toyota Vios 1.3 MT, while the highest variant of the Toyota Vios is the 2022 Toyota Vios GR-Sport.

Design

The “young” appearance of the Toyota Vios makes the vehicle stand out on the highway. With only a few spotlights here and there and basic Aerokit (top two models), the Vios appears faster than it travels.

Wheels

The wheel size, like the headlamps, changes depending on the variation. The range-topping G receives 16-inch wheels, whereas the E and J get 15-inch wheels.

Dashboard

While the dashboard of the Toyota Vios is indeed made of durable material, Toyota has done a good job of fitting everything together so that nothing rattles and disturbs the tranquil mood of the cabin. It lacks a quality aesthetic, but it is a utilitarian layout.

The Center Console

Though the appearance and equipment have vastly improved, the cubby areas in the Vios continue to disappoint. The cottage has a lot of cubby holes, but they’re primarily small and shallow. Even the passenger floorboard box demands some Tetris talent to put more than one thing inside.

Space

The inside size of the Vios isn’t much to write home about when compared to its nearest competitor, but it’s just as if everyone can be comfy and not feel crowded in a small space.

Boot

Toyota appears to have managed to push out additional boot room for the Vios since the boot capacity measures greater than before the facelift.

Security Features

The Toyota Vios moved from having only two airbags to compensate for all of its safety mechanisms towards becoming the most well-equipped vehicle in its class. The Vios, like the Yaris, has Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind-Spot Monitor, Panoramic View Monitor for the two top models, and 7 airbags across the board.

Comfort Options

Leather seats are only available on the top-of-the-line Vios G, as are the steering, gear knob, and centre console. The E and J models have smooth fabric seats, comparable to the Toyota Yaris.

Infotainment

The J variant gets a conventional audio unit with four speakers, whilst the E and G variants receive a 7-inch touch head unit. There is Bluetooth and Mirrorlink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connections.

Transmission

The CVT initially appeared in the 2016 upgrade. Though Toyota states that no changes were made to the engine or CVT, the 2017 Vios’ gearbox is noticeably smooth and quiet than the previous model.

Engine Efficiency

The Toyota Vios is not a dainty fairy. Instead, it takes a pulse longer for the engine to respond. However, the automobile manages the continuously changing pace with serenity, but with an additional zest that earlier improvements did not provide.

Transmission Efficiency

The CVT in the Toyota Vios is now smoother and emits less whining when the accelerator is pressed.

Handling and steering

The steering is well-weighted, and while there isn’t as much input as some would want, the Vios’ performance can only be characterized as pleasant for city driving. While cornering takes a little more trust, the Vios can still be brisk on the highway.

Noise Isolation

Soundproofing has considerably improved over prior models. Toyota has increased the amount of soundproofing in the car and even fitted acoustic windshields to reduce noise levels inside the cabin.

Passenger convenience

Toyota has changed the chassis for a gentler and more supple ride in the new Vios. Despite the fact that the Vios G rides on larger 16-inch wheels, the result is a pleasant ride with greater porthole ironing abilities.

Consumption of Fuel and Engine

The Vios comes with two powerplant options. The first one is a 1.3-liter 1NR-FE petrol engine with 98 horsepower and 123 Newton-meters of torque. The bigger 1.5-liter 2NR-FE mill, on the other hand, delivers 105 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. Both engines are available with a continuously variable gearbox (CVT) or a five-speed manual transmission. The sedan is only available with front-wheel drive. Toyota has also implemented ECQ and Sports driving modes for 1.5-liter engine trims to maximise power output.

Conclusion

The Vios is at long last making reparations by transitioning from a vehicle that offered just the minimum essentials and two airbags to a B-segment sedan that is fully equipped. It is now fair to assume that it is the safest vehicle in its segment and that it is a pioneer of safety features that have not really been offered on B-segment sedans in the records of automotive history.
