Rolph Balgobin serves on the Finance Council of the Catholic Church (Archdiocese of Port of Spain). He is also the founder and current chairman of The Oxbridge International School (OXIS) in Trinidad and Tobago. This article will look at the teaching methods employed by The Oxbridge International School to develop minds and nurture global thinkers.

A Cambridge-certified institution offering the British education system to students from early years to the end of secondary school, The Oxbridge International School aims to provide students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to pursue their chosen vocational path with confidence. The school offers an exceptional academic experience based on the traditions and values of the University of Cambridge. There is also a strong focus on nurturing and the development of the whole person, as well as leadership development.

The Oxbridge International School adopts a holistic approach to learning, providing a safe and nurturing environment where students learn through play and exploration. The school’s mission is to unlock the potential of all students, creating a strong sense of self through creativity, inquiry and collaboration. The school’s philosophy is to encourage young people to learn by exploring, adopting an approach that focuses on the individual, and encouraging skills development by providing a safe space where children are encouraged to take risks and think for themselves.

The Oxbridge International School’s programmes are expertly designed to develop both the intellect and character of students. By the time they graduate, each student is equipped to achieve excellence in their chosen field. The Oxbridge International School’s mission is to prepare young people to become the next generation of responsible leaders, with the school placing an emphasis on ensuring that learning programmes are consistently relevant, interesting and exciting.

Established in 2019, The Oxbridge International School takes a holistic approach to learning focusing on the individual student journey. As a Cambridge International School it offers students the full Cambridge curriculum, from early years to advanced education.

As Dr Balgobin explains, everything is about the child at The Oxbridge International School. The school uses baseline assessments from Cambridge not only to assess cognitive development but also as a foundation for radical education redesign, placing the child firmly at the nucleus of everything the school does and enabling it to effectively partner with parents and build positive relationships. The Oxbridge International School has rethought its teaching approach for each particular child, with these baseline assessments providing valuable insights into each child’s ability – enabling educators to have an objective conversation about the child using credible, third-party information. The school recently launched a Wellbeing programme to assess the development of each student.

The learning institution’s challenging and innovative curriculum is expertly curated to encourage analysis, independent research and critical thinking. The overarching aim of The Oxbridge International School is to produce lifelong learners by connecting learning to the real world and promoting critical analysis skills. The school’s graduates are not only equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their chosen field but are also primed for lifelong learning.

It is vital that all students are able to recognise the relevance of what they are learning in school in the context of the world around them. The Oxbridge International School’s teachers help students to make connections between their studies and the real world, keeping them engaged and motivated in their learning. What sets The Oxbridge International School’s graduates apart is their ability to think critically, allowing them to look at the world in a different way and identify solutions to problems that others might miss. This enables students to approach challenges with confidence, allowing them to come up with innovative, effective solutions.
