We all know that choosing an assisted living facility for your loved one is no easy feat – and it is especially heart-wrenching. However, one of the many benefits that ease our heartache is that the assisted living facility will provide better medical support for your loved one in an emergency. The reason for this is that decent assisted living facilities usually have pertinent medical equipment at hand, coupled with trained professionals that know how to handle them. With this knowledge, anyone can sleep well at night, knowing that their loved one’s health is well taken care of. To further strengthen this reassurance and for proper insight, highlighted below are examples of medical equipment every assisted living facility should have.

First Aid Supplies

The first set of equipment an assisted living facility should have is a standard first aid kit and main equipment for immediate response. The reason for this is because of accidents, which happen more frequently when dealing with older people. Therefore, it is essential to have first aid supplies for immediate treatment of minor injuries. This also prevents having to needlessly transport the resident to a hospital.

Diagnostic Equipment

A service offered by assisted living facilities is medical care, and this can hardly be given without diagnosing the medical issue first. This is why standard diagnostic machines are a necessity in every assisted living facility. An example is assisted living Los Angeles where diagnostic equipment are regarded as a necessity. Standard diagnostic equipment includes thermometers, stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, penlights, tongue depressors and others.

Respiratory Emergency Equipment

For a lot of older or senior people, a common issue they go through centers around respiratory conditions, such as pneumonia. These conditions normally become more active during winter and flu season, and having the means to promptly and safely deal with them in the living space is key. To be able to do that, having emergency respiratory equipment like portable emergency suction is a must. Having equipment like a portable machine allows for the provision of immediate care, as opposed to moving the resident or calling for extra help.

Infection Prevention Equipment

If the coronavirus pandemic has taught us anything, it is that an infectious disease can spread like wildfire, especially among senior citizens. In light of that, it is extra important for assisted living facilities and senior care homes, in general, to have the appropriate infection prevention equipment at hand and readily available. Examples of this equipment include personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfectant, hand sanitizers, etc.

Pain Management Supplies

Old people have several bouts of pain, often on a daily or regular basis. This prompts the need for pain management supplies. Having said supplies on-site goes a long way in relieving the residents of whatever pain they are in. Common examples of pain management supplies include warm and cold packs.

Safety Supplies

Residents of assisted living facilities often have impairment issues and can fall, stumble or worse. To prevent this, most assisted living facilities often stock up on equipment like walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, patient call systems, bed alarms, braces and a host of other safety supplies.
