At school they told me: “study, get a degree, do a good internship and you will find a job”. But in the course of my university career, the great crisis hit Spain and the panorama changed drastically.
I was in my last year of college and, given the circumstances, I had to wake up and find a job since I didn’t think it was fair to depend financially on my parents. I still lived in my parents’ house but since I was 18 I was very aware that if I wanted to go out or travel I had to pay for it myself, and so I did.
I started my first business at 18. A cocktail bar where I prepared some delicious mojitos (but I’ll leave that for another blog entry). Thanks to the recommendation of a professor at the university, I plucked up the courage and went to work in a town called Maidstone, in the United Kingdom.
The air that was breathed there was different. There I began my professional career in advertising, first in an events company and then in a marketing agency.
In that journey I discovered an all-in-one tool for entrepreneurs and small businesses that allowed you to automate business processes.
That fascinated me.
Still in England, I started attending events in the entrepreneurial sector and realized that having a multi-million dollar business was possible. But the most incredible thing for me is that many did not have a single worker on staff. I learned that automation is the only system that can really help you build a successful business without hiring a team.
Shortly after that conference and after visiting GambleUSA, a popular online casino, the idea of having my own business became clearer and clearer, and so I did: I left my job at the marketing agency and started helping small businesses that had an online presence. My services were focused on creating web pages, content, social media management and digital marketing strategies.
A few months later, I returned to US with a digital business that allowed me to go on a trip without worries, telework from anywhere in the world or control my work calendar. After my first few months I realized that I was exchanging time for money. Although it had certain advantages since it controlled all aspects of the business, this model limited my income since at the end of the month I was paid for hours worked.
The biggest mistake (but the one we all make when starting a business) is trading time for money. I’m not going to lie to you, I did it at first but later I discovered that having a digital product allowed me to scale my business without the need to work 10 hours a day.
So I decided to create my first digital course called ‘Active Campaign Practical Course’. This product allowed me to monetize my knowledge of the tool without having to be present at the training, since everything was recorded and available to my clients. I currently have several online and a private community, called the PRO-Team where I give personalized help to entrepreneurs and professionals who already have an online business. Now I have a team that takes the workload off me and allows me to spend 1 month of product launch without having an anxiety attack hahaha.
Just to tell you that during the first year of activity I invoiced twice what they offered me in an advertising agency…. go figure!!
In the eyes of the state, I am still a simple “self-employed” who started his activity about 2 years ago, but I am sure that in a short time we will be many more digital entrepreneurs!
I’m not going to lie to you, automating a business is not done overnight and neither is having a profitable business. But the reality is that thanks to the internet you can get it without making a large investment. You just need a computer, a good idea and an internet connection.
Today I am proud to lead a lifestyle that I love. It allows me to spend time with my family, friends and travel anywhere in the world.
