Detoxing can be Toxic

The term “detox” is far more complicated than it’s made out to be in the media. The concept has been popularized in many forms from juice cleanses to weight-loss scams. While some of these ideas have benefits, they oversimplify the important, complex concept of detoxification.

What is Detoxing?

The main antioxidant and strongest toxin defense in the body is the glutathione and Nrf2. Nrf2 binds with the antioxidant response element which helps to put critical actions in the detoxification process in motion. This process provides a protective role in the body. It is activated by being exposed to chemical pollutants in the air and household products. Repeated exposure can, unfortunately, increase toxicity in the body and impair its ability to efficiently detox.

The DIM Detox Boost

There are ways, however, to improve and strengthen our detox pathways naturally. One way is by consuming diindolylmethane, also known as DIM. DIM is found in vegetables like broccoli, kale, Brussel sprouts, and cabbage. It can help support the metabolism and eliminate dangerous forms of estrogens that cause hormonal imbalances.

Estrogen dominance is one of the most common hormonal imbalances. Symptoms of this range from belly fat and weight gain to fatigue, thinning hair, depression, acne, infertility, bloating, and low libido.

To restore hormone balance, the body has to purge itself of the toxins and xenoestrogens that are harmful. It cannot do this without the inducement of Nrf2. Eating cruciferous vegetables can help, but at times it’s not enough. That is when a DIM Detox supplement can prove extremely beneficial and even crucial for detoxification.

Side Effects

DIM Detox should not be taken by any women who are pregnant or lactating. Some of the ingredients within DIM Detox may cause gastrointestinal upset. Rare side effects also include skin rash, headache, dry mouth, itching, and dizziness. This should be avoided by any individual with allergies to daisies, artichoke, kiwi, thistle, or any members of the aster family. Please consult with your doctor for more information.
