Double glazed windows are necessary for every home because they help reduce energy consumption, keep the house warm and reduce noise levels from outside. The good news is that the double glazing industry has advanced, and different types of double glazed windows are available to suit every homeowner’s needs. The wide range of double glazing styles can be overwhelming to choose from, but understanding the features of each one of them can help you make a better choice.

Casement, tilt and turn, vertical sliding, and Georgian are the main double glazing styles, while others are different variations of these options.

Tilt and Turn

Tilt and turn double glazing is a popular choice among homeowners with kids and pets because it provides additional safety measures. A unique thing about the windows is that they have a dual-hinge system, so you can tilt them inwards from the top or open them entirely via the hinges down the side.

Note that you can only open the window a few inches when the handle is in a position for tilting the window. The small opening allows air circulation while preventing children and pets from climbing through. You can open the window fully to clean it from the inside of your home.

Casement

Casement double glazing windows are made with different types of glass designed to allow as much natural light as possible into a home. By choosing the right style of casement double glazing, you can automatically brighten dark rooms. The installers can position the hinges down on one side or along the top, allowing you to open the windows into or away from the building.

Casement windows are popular because they come in a wide variety of affordable and widely available designs.

Vertical Sliding

Vertical sliding double glazed windows are worth exploring if you have an older building or prefer something more traditional. They are similar to sash windows- they slide vertically rather than opening into or away from the building. The good thing is that they don’t have the downsides associated with sash windows.

You can cut down on future maintenance by opting for PVC-u or treated metal frames instead of wood. That also allows you to enjoy an effortless slide mechanism that doesn’t get stuck and never fails. Also, advanced modern sliders are safe and effective, and you don’t have to worry about them falling.

Georgian

Georgian double-glazed windows give the impression of having several small window panes in every unit and are prevalent in Georgian houses. In reality, Georgian bar glazed windows have multiple high-quality bars running vertically and horizontally along every window pane.

The material is the same as the one in the frame creating a multipane effect. Therefore the glass is the same as in the other types of double glazing, and only the frame is different, making the traditional Georgian style.

Conclusion

Besides the double glazing window type, you must consider other factors, such as the frame material and colors. Most importantly, research or ask a specialist about the different styles to make an informed choice.
