Whether you understand the plumbing components of your home, or if they’re a complete mystery to you, you can still look out for signs that point to problems. There’s no need for you to inspect your plumbing, as these signs will become apparent to you as you go about your daily routine.

There are five main issues that may seem small at first to look out for. If left unchecked, these small little signs may turn into larger problems within a short amount of time. So, if you’re wondering if it’s time to call a plumber Brisbane residents trust to do some maintenance on your home’s plumbing, ask yourself if any of the following signs are apparent.

5 Warning Signs in Your Home that Warrant a Call to Your Local Plumber

Creaking in Your Pipes

It may not happen every time you run water or flush the toilet, but occasional creaking in your pipes is a sure sign that something is amiss. Listen out for creaking each time you open a tap and be sure to contact your local plumber if the problem happens more than once.

This may indicate that you have a water pressure problem, or that some of your plumbing components are not fastened correctly. Creaking pipes can also point to obstructions within your pipes due to build-ups of rust or lime.

Items Not Eliminated After the First Flush

Toilet paper can be a good way to test if your toilet is heading towards blockage. If a piece of toilet paper doesn’t flush after the first try, check to see if the water is rising to an uncomfortable height in your toilet. This could mean that your drain is blocked, and this problem definitely warrants a plumber visit to your home.

A Whistling Sound in Your Ceiling

Pipes can also make a strange, sharp whistling sound whenever you flush your toilet or dispense water from a room that’s far away from your water heater. Loose valves, or valves that aren’t tightened properly, may cause this sound to emanate from your ceiling. Another possible problem could be that there is air being trapped in your pipes. Either way, a plumber should be called as soon as possible to evaluate the situation.

Small Leaks in Your Taps or Under Your Toilet

Small leaks often turn into big ones if you just leave them. Some leaks seem so small and inconsistent that they don’t seem to warrant a closer look or any attention at all. Tiny leaks under your toilet indicate possible blockage. This blockage could be caused by items stuck in your drain, or even tree roots that have grown out of control under your house.

Leaky taps are also worth fixing, since they will more often than not result in larger leaks later on. A loose connection or a valve that’s not tight enough may sound small, but if these problems aren’t rectified soon, they will cause further damage down the line.

Trip Switch Keeps Knocking Out Your Power

While you may assume that a trip in your power is an electrical problem, often this has to do with moisture reaching your wires. This moisture could come from a leak in your ceiling, but it’s more likely that your pipes are leaking within your walls and coming into contact with your electrical components. This is another good reason to contact a professional plumber fast!

What to Look for When You Contact a Local Plumber

Plumbers are all over Australia. Some charge more than others, and some seem to know more about how to diagnose problems than others do. So, how do you effectively hire a plumber that can solve your plumbing issues without multiple visits?

Firstly, look for a plumber that’s licensed and insured. True professionals will always make their customers aware that they are qualified and experienced, but they’ll also include their licensing and insurance statuses.

Second, source a plumber that offers you a warranty on their work. There are many instances where plumbers have to return to a home to “refix” a problem because it wasn’t dealt with correctly the first time. Plumbers who offer warranties usually make sure the problem is solved after the first visit, even if it takes longer.

Finally, use a plumbing company that explains how the problem occurred. This will help you to understand the issue and help you to prevent it in future. A good plumber will always have his customers’ best interests at heart and will be sure to explain why a problem occurred and how it can be prevented.

Final Thoughts

Keep an eye out for these subtle warning signs and don’t ignore them. If your plumbing components are maintained regularly, you’ll avoid exorbitant costs down the line. So, keep your home in working order by contacting a plumber if any of these signs rear their ugly heads, but also be sure to contact a plumber that downs what they’re doing.
