Christmas is a joyful time of the year. They get to spend time with their families, exchange gifts, and eat delicious Christmas goodies. Perhaps the best part about the holiday is decorating the Christmas tree with ornaments, lights, garlands, and a star on top.

However, when you bring your tree home, you may bring thousands of tree bugs. Each Christmas tree has around 25,000 small bugs, according to experts. To make sure your Christmas is pest-free, you can call pest control in Boise.

Pests you may get to see in and around your Christmas tree

1. Aphids

Aphids are the most common insects found on Christmas tree branches. They are harmless to humans and do not pose a threat by bringing dangerous bacteria or diseases. They appear in various colors, including green, red, black, brown, yellow, and gray. They are mostly found in the lower branches of the tree. Though harmless, seeing them walking around in your house can frighten someone.

2. Adelgids

Adelgids are tiny bugs, measuring about the sixteenth of an inch. They appear white due to their wooly appearance but have dark bodies. They are barely seeable to the naked eye, and thus, it is easy to miss them on a Christmas tree. You may even confuse them with snow due to their white, wooly appearance. However, they are not harmful to humans.

3. Bark beetles

Bark beetles are hard-bodied, cylindrical-shaped insects about the size of a rice grain. They appear in various colors, namely brown, black and red. Bark beetles are named so because of their ability to bore into tree trunks, creating tiny holes and sawdust. However, these insects do not harm your furniture when they get inside your house. This is because they require humidity, and home furniture is made of dry wood.

4. Praying mantises

Praying mantises are found on various trees, one of which is the Christmas tree. These are bright green and are rather large in size, so you can easily spot and remove them from your tree. In some cultures, killing a praying mantis is considered bad luck. Like all the others on our list, these insects are harmless to humans and can be set free when you spot them in your house.

5. Scale insects

The eggs of scale insects appear like white, shiny pearls on your Christmas tree. They are small and mostly found on the tree’s needles and branches. When these crawlers come inside your house, you may find them moving around on the floor. They can be cleaned up with a damp towel.

If you had accidentally brought a Christmas tree full of bugs and now your house is filled with these small creatures, perhaps the professionals can help.
