Technology has transformed the transport sector in myriad ways. If you operate a transport business, you may have experienced loss in the past due to product damages. That’s a thing of the past now; you can easily buy or hire a refrigerated van to transport perishable goods at the right temperature. It’s one of the sure ways to maintain product quality which ensures the safety of the items being delivered.

Here’s a guide to buying a refrigerated van:

1. Determine whether you need the van

 Not all businesses require a refrigerated van. However, you will need it if you’re a florist, catering business, pharmaceutical company, or a drinks business. As a florist, you’ll need to maintain your products at the right temperature and not damage your flowers and plants. Also, you’ll need a fridge van if, in the catering business, you’ll likely transport food items that should be chilled to maintain their freshness.

Similarly, a refrigerated van is handy for any drinks company. Some drinks such as milk, sodas and beers should be chilled, and your business will benefit immensely from a refrigerated van. You’ll also need to maintain sensitive drugs at proper temperatures for a pharmaceutical company, and a fridge van is essential.

2. The temperature matters

There are different vehicle bands, and Volkswagen fridge vans are quite common. They come in varying temperature levels, and not all will suit your needs. Think of your goods and choose one to fit the desired amount of temperatures. Ensure that the temperature controls in the selected van match the range you need for your goods. For instance, if transporting flowers, you’ll need to maintain a chilled temperature of between 5 and 7°C. Also, if transporting foodstuffs, you may require compartments in the van to keep products at the right temperature.

3. The wheelbase is vital

The distance between the wheelbases is vital if transporting certain kinds of goods. You’ll fridge vans in different types of wheelbase, and they vary in terms of measurements depending on the make and model. However, the team should guide you in choosing the best match for your types of goods. Examples of wheelbases include;

  • Long wheelbase
  • Medium wheelbase
  • Short wheelbase

 You may also need a van with additional features; these may include a slip-resistant floor to ease climbing in and out. Extra shelving will also come in handy or separate compartments to help keep certain perishables apart. Think of other extras like the warranty and maintenance and inquire if the company offers maintenance services when needed.

4. Consider the doors

Doors are something that most people don’t consider when buying or hiring a refrigerated van. If delivering goods to different sites, you want to maintain a constant temperature, but this drops once you open the doors. To achieve the best temperatures, you may have to invest in strip curtains for your van.

In conclusion, maintaining perishable products at the right temperature avoids a lot of losses during transportation. To meet the transport legislations in your state, acquire a fridge van for your transport needs. Buy one that meets the temperature requirements of your goods to ensure safe and healthy products for your clients.
